How did you hike that in 4 mminutes and 15 seconds. Our round trip was about 7 hours but worth every step! I wish I was there right now. Thanks for doing these videos.

Thoroughly enjoyed seeing Valerie’s video of this hike to Charlie’s Bunyon, which is certainly one of my favorite day hikes, along with LeConte and Chimney Tops. Watching this video from my home in Florida puts me right there. I love the GSM National Park and consider it my home away from home. Thanks so much!

Great Job Valerie! I have hiked the entire AT through the GSMNP. I LOVE the park!! My stay at Icewater Spring Shelter was one of the best with great views on a grassy open area off the trail. Charlies Bunion was one of my favorite spots along the AT. You feel a sense of solitude there with AWESOME views of some of the best peaks in the park. Watching the video took me right back there as I sit in my den in Brandon, Mississippi.

    Valerie,
I really enjoy all your videos, and save them to view again and again on our “off” season when we’re not in the Smokies! Thank you for letting me visit my Smokies from Florida!!

Thanks for posting this. I grew up in Knoxville, and must make almost annual visits to the Smokies. 2 of my grown children, my 10 year old granddaughter and I made the treck to Charlies Bunion last July. Not sure how many more years I can do that, but it was memorable, including very clear weather.

What a WONDERFUL mental escape in the middle of my day. I could even “smell” it hear the sounds of the trail. This is one that I have hiked “many” times over the years. GSM has been in my life since childhood and is STILL my favorite place to visit and get some “mountain magic” for my heart and soul. Twice-a-year visits are part of my life every year now. It is truly “heaven on earth”. I have covered the entire Appalacian Trail through the park and have “repeat hikes”that I enjoy anytime I visit. Everytime there is something new yet familar about being there each and every time. So “thank you” very much for this most pleasant “Smokey escape” on a really hot and muggy day in Kentucky. aaaahhhhh…..”Happy Trails” to you always.

We just returned to Wisconsin from our annual trip to the beloved Smoky Mountains. While my head is back at work, my heart is still in the mountains. Watching your video was a very pleasant break in my hectic day. Your videos and newsletters are my way of staying in touch with the most beautiful place on earth. Thanks! I look forward to the next one!

I stopped at Charlies Bunion on my way to Peck’s Corner in Oct 2009. What an absolute breathtaking view. “Smoke” was blowing over the ridge and into the valley. The mountain ash burries were briliant red against yellow leaves. The evergreens were in sharp contrast and the sun was not yet high in the sky. It was a National Geographic moment and I did not have my camera with. I will do this hike again and maybe I’ll be fortunate enough to capture that moment agian. It seems where ever I hike in the Smoky’s, there is something else to gaze upon in awe! God is good to us!
