Fall of 2011 in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park was very spectacular, as we had a vibrant display of color thoughout the fall season. This video was taken by the Great Smoky Mountains Assocation to showcase the fall foliage throughout the park.

The Elk Rut in Cataloochee Is Now!

September and October are great times to see the elk in Cataloochee. During the rut, bulls sound their echoing bugles throughout the valley. A visit to Cataloochee any time of day is a treat, but if you want the best chance to see the elk, you should go very early in the morning or in the evening. Mountain Life Festival, September 18

Come on over and experience old-time mountain ways at the annual Mountain Life Festival, held at Oconaluftee Mountain Farm Museum. This year’s event will be on September 18 from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. Living history demonstrations will get you in touch with the many activities that kept people in this area busy, like making molasses, apple cider, apple butter, cornbread, and greens, and crafting brooms and rugs.
