Courtesy of Ann Froschauer, here are some great photos of the fisheries rangers at work and some beautiful Brook trout (Salvelinus fontinalis), the only trout native to the Smokies.
The NPS and Trout Unlimited have been successfully restoring native Brook trout populations in the park (and removing non-native Rainbow trout).
Here’s a close up of a brook trout. He was put back into the water immediately after having his mug shot taken.

Here are the fisheries rangers at work while our video blogger and podcaster, Courtney Lix, captures them for all time on film.

Here’s another photo showing just how beautiful brook trout are.

This is Ann, our photographer extraordinaire and 75th Anniversary coordinator holding a small trout.

Here’s a trout swimming by.

Ah, what a perfect way to spend a day in the Smokies! (Those are Ann’s boots.)
